Mintues from 18 November 2008
We had an initial discussion about EMHW 2009 on 18 November and booked some dates for the next planning meetings, which unfortunately have had to be changed. THE DATES OF THE NEXT MEETINGS ARE NOW:
Monday 26 January
Monday 2 March
Monday 23 March
Monday 20 April
All meetings will be from 12noon-2pm at St Barnabas Church, Temple Road, Epsom.
At the last meeting we tried to dream the dream about good mental health in Epsom and considered what would help/what needs doing/what could we do. Some of the suggestions are as follows:
Having an Epsom well-being week and inviting famous people
Life is stressful: how can we make it a little better/happier
Having evening meetings.
Looking at how religion can help good mental health
The Asian view of religion and good mental health.
Prevention is better than treatment
Looking at worries: money, families, religious worries etc.,
How to overcome stigma
Making information available
Mental hygiene
Lack of community
Information about the effects of non-medication drugs and alcohol
People who may need some support include:
Elderly; young mothers; people in debt; people in pressurised jobs, being bullied or abused in the workplace or being made redundant; bereaved people, who may feel especially lonely; minority groups; children at school who may be left out or bullied; people experiencing domestic abuse; angry people; people experiencing the empty nest syndrome; questioners of the meaning of life; broken marriages and arranged marriages; people experiencing lack of community; the effect of the media.
There is much to be done, and your thoughts and ideas would be gratefully received, even if you cannot attend the next meetings.
Thank you for all that you do.
With kind regards
Sue Bull
