Minutes from 20th April 2009
Dear friends
I begin, as last time, with an apology: my computer has been playing up and I may have lost some emails. If you have not received a reply from me, please could you re-send the original email to SHBull@btinternet.com or info@epsommentalhealthweek.org.uk Thank you.
And so to business:
1. The concert on 28 March was a great success. Epsom Chamber Choir will be holding a concert on 18 June, with proceeds coming to EMHW. A participant in an endurance event is also hoping to give us her sponsorship money.
2. The week will be advertised at the Church of England local clergy conference and at the Trust Day in May. We will try, funds permitting, to advertise the week on the screens in the Ashley Centre, PO, Nationwide, etc.,
3. Various possibilities will be explored for the design of the brochure, rag week type booklets, and bookmark.
4. Waterstone’s will be invited to hold a book signing event and display.
5. Famous people to be invited include Ed Stuart, David Suchet and Fiona Philips.
6. Possible street events include children’s entertainers, street theatre, and biking displays.
7. Other possible displays include famous creative people who had a mental illness.
8. Tony will explore the possibility of a computer programme to be available during the week for people to gain information and advice about early symptoms.
9. The week will hopefully have something for every age group, including emotional gyms for busy young people; resources for those caring for both children and elderly parents; and a 1940’s sing-song and tea for more senior people. Epsom Primary school will be happy to host an event in this latter category, and day care centres will also be invited to participate.
10. Surrey and Borders Partnership Diversity Week will be happening at the same time and Sue will be invited to its planning meetings.
11. The Get Moving health campaign will be taking place from 3-11 October and we have been invited to make connection with this organisation.
12. The poster campaign has been organised and the Mayor has kindly agreed to present the prizes. Schools have been invited to host the plays.
13. Other ideas: Ghazala may have a contact for colour therapy; we will discuss possibilities with health clubs; there may be badge making, pamper days (run by the Red Cross?), face painting, make up sessions, henna or other simple tattoos, a climbing wall. There was a suggestion of an ‘Epsom’s Got Talent’ event but this may take too much time to organise.
With every good wish for your weeks. We meet again on Monday 18 May 12noon-2pm at St Barnabas Church, Temple Road, Epsom, KT19 8HA.
Kind regards.
Sue Bull
