Minutes from Meeting held on 23 June 2008
Dear Colleague
Time marches on and summer has arrived. I shall be out of contact until 9 August but Sarah Jenkins and Michael Preston have very kindly agreed to take over my role whilst I am away, so please address all correspondence to them at info@epsommentalhealthweek.org.uk or ring 01372 721518. I hope that we may all have a refreshing few weeks, wherever we may be and I’ll look forward to seeing everybody again at our next planning meeting on Tuesday 12 August 12noon-2pm at St Barnabas Church, Temple Road, Epsom (lunch provided). The remaining meetings will be on:
Monday 1 September
Monday 15 September
Monday 29 September
Tuesday 21 October
And so to the notes of our encouraging meeting held on 23 June.
Young people
Negotiations are taking place with the Manager of Leatherhead Theatre, who hopes to show the play during Epsom Mental Health Week.
Sally will be invited to write a play for the 3-11 age range, emphasising good mental health. Diane will see what connections may be made with the schools’ autumn social theme. Shiva has volunteered to be liaison person with the schools re showing the plays.
Publicity
Epsom Scouts have been booked to deliver the brochures from 22 September to all the homes in Epsom for a fee which will help their funds. Sarah and Glyn Jenkins are developing the website and planning the design for the badges, sashes, and brochure. Netherne printers have been asked to do the printing.
Prisons
Jessica and her team will be offering some creative workshops to raise awareness about mental health issues and community support for ex-prisoners.
Samaritans
Are happy to provide a talk and exhibition.
Hairdressers
Headmasters have very kindly provided 100 half price vouchers and will provide more for the week.
Encouragement
Rupert had written to the Bishop of Guildford about the week. A supportive reply had been received, which was read to the meeting.
Opening Ceremony
Jimmy White, the Asian Dance Group and musician Tom Arnold will all be able to attend the opening ceremony. We spent some time considering how best we may care for the numbers of people who may wish to attend. Planning work continues.
Venues
The exhibition space outside the library in the Ebbisham centre has been booked for the week and other central Epsom spaces are being considered.
The bigger picture
We had some discussion about how different cultures interpret and view mental health and mental illness. The conversation continued over lunch.
To you all, a huge thank you, and I’ll look forward to seeing as many as are able on 12 August.
Kind regards
Sue
